German Conductors' Award to start in Cologne

Today, the international contest for concert and opera conductors is to start in Cologne. From 11th through 18th October 2019, 12 young conductors are to present themselves to a renowned jury, which will present the German Conductors’ Award to one of the contestants after the final concert.

The Conductors’ Forum of the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat) is organising the competition in a partnership with the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cologne Opera, the Gürzenich-Orchestra of Cologne and the Symphonic Orchestra of the WDR. “Making music with such excellent orchestras such as the Symphonic Orchestra of the WDR or the Gürzenich-Orchestra is a unique chance for the participants, through which junior conductors can grow and gather experience for their later career,” said Hossein Pishkar, winner of the German Conductors’ Award in 2017.
